Bullying is not only a concern for children but also adults. For working adults, bullying can destroy the career, the family and can also lead to a person’s mental health and mental injury. If the superior is a bully, the effects of anxiety, psychiatric and suicide damage may occur among the staffs.
Each case is unique. A destructive criticism combined with refusal to appreciate or acknowledge performance and achievement of employee is part of the bullying feature. It revolves in management and professional teams to the support groups. Bullying may be physically or possibly with ‘body language‘, although it is only a weak touch or collision, but for bully adults it may have a profound impact on their mentality.
The powerful bully will try to separate the victim with a colleague by spreading bad news or making a defamation against the person being bullied for example being diagnosed with emotional health problems or less ability to perform the task or even giving bad job ads to public.
Silent and undetectable
Bullying is usually carried out silently and unknowingly. It’s hard for anyone to know what’s going on, and it’s hard to identify when bullying develops. The restructuring of administrative organizations or the appointment of new heads is a common trigger for this episode. Bullying events are usually detected through “unpleasant” work environments, although it is unclear whether bullying is a source of discontent or failure.
The hatred & jealousy
The bullying environment occurred is not because the bully does not like someone, but it is a psychological response where the bully may be the person who was once and is being bullied. He/She will often target people who they perceive to be threatening to them, usually victims are great staff or staff of their workmanship or because they are popular. They are also those who are meticulous, efficient and well-liked by friends, students and parents.
All about power
Bullying is about power. Bullies want control over their prey and their environment. And their main instrument is criticism or direction. A bully might criticize everything from professional conduct to personal appearance.
At the end, you may be seen as a troublemaker or a nuisance to their projects, but if you are calm and objective, you do not have to worry about or fear their threats. Talk to your trusted friends, you may get the strength and enthusiasm you need. Indeed, there are ‘superiors’ who are crippled and acted for their improper misconduct.
Create a fear environment
In the event of bully in a workplace, colleagues are often afraid to defend the victims. Those who speak to the bully or who blast the whistle on bullying environment will be the target of the future. As bullies dominate position, they turn out to be getting ready to persecute their subordinates. So, despite the fact that not all bullies are cruel, but they love to do it because they think they are powerful.
No law to address bully
There is no clear or direct law addressing bullying issues. That does not mean lawsuits cannot works, it’s just hard to prove your case. If you feel you are being bullied based on racism, gender or disability, refer to the existing rules and laws. To be honest, the most obvious opportunity is to stop immediately bullying by respond immediately. Immediately report to the union if you are a member of the union or consult your counsellor.
Bullying should not be taken lightly. It can last for years, with the victims continuing to carry out their duties under increasingly stressful conditions. The result is cumulative injury to the victim’s health. Stress is officially the number one cause of illness in the workplace, while there are other factors that contribute to stress, including excessive workload and long period of working, it is coincidence that bullying and stress are in line.
But if you fail to solve the situation, take a smart step by changing to a new workplace. Taking legal action can be an expensive and difficult procedure. But follow ‘your heart and mind’, make sure you are satisfied with the action taken.
